Muscat, December 6, 2020: Oman Tourism College (OTC) organised its annual Alumni meeting virtually through Zoom on Wednesday, December 2. This meeting was conducted as part of the college’s keenness to maintain an ongoing relationship with its Alumni. During the event, the latest developments in the local tourism and hospitality sectors, as well as various associated activities such as events management, were discussed.
Commenting on the importance of this annual forum, Dr Abdulkarim Sultan Al Mughairi, Dean of OTC said, “The college has always been eager to keep in touch with its students, even after graduation and employment. Apart from maintaining strong bonds, we believe that this enriches the college’s role above and beyond just traditional education, making us an academic institution that is focused on empowering and developing all its students and graduates alike. This is made possible through short professional development courses and various programme, thanks to our association with several international leading institutions in the sector. Our primary objective is to qualify Omani talents, to the highest possible levels of competence and preparedness, which will allow them to take up their role in supporting and developing the tourism sector. Organising such forums familiarises us with the reality of the labour market, its challenges and requirements. The experiences shared by our graduates assist us in updating our academic programmes and courses that we offer, so as to keep pace with changes and developments in the local market.”
The annual forum kicked-off with a speech by the Dean of the college, welcoming the alumni, followed by a review of the latest updates of the college, regarding partnerships with entities working in the tourism and hospitality sector. Also included was the news of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with academic institutions and the achievement of receiving accreditation of the Tour Guide Programme World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA). Moreover, the meeting provided insight into the various academic programmes offered by the college for graduates at special discounts, catered to those wishing to complete their studies and enhance their educational profile. A presentation was given on several professional and development short courses aimed at added valuable knowledge and enhancing their skills. The graduates shared their success stories and experiences, and how the college contributed to preparing them for their careers in the sector, both in theory and in practice. The meeting concluded with an open discussion held between all participants.
