Oman Tourism College conducted a Dutch Culinary Workshop as part of its initiatives in occupational training, oriented towards upgrading the skills and efficiencies of industry professionals. The workshop was held recently in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and was led by Chef Edgar Buhrs who is a member of the Euro-Toques Netherlands, an association of chefs dedicated to preserving culinary heritage.
Commenting on the event, Dr. Abdulkarim Al Mughairi – Dean, OTC, said, “First, I would like to thank the Dutch Embassy for their cooperation and support in conducting a successful training workshop. At OTC, we are committed to raising the professional standards of the hospitality and tourism sector to match global industry benchmarks. It forms part of the college’s focus to not only create a market ready workforce but to also ensure that existing manpower receives consistent skills enhancement to hone efficiencies while on the job.”
The workshop drew participation from OTC students as well as a number of professional chefs from Oman’s leading hotels. They were led through practical training sessions by Chef Buhrs who gave live culinary demonstrations and dispatched expert advice on the finer points of Dutch gourmet food.
Commenting on his experience of the workshop Sheesepal Sigh, Demi Chef Pastry at Crowne Plaza said, “Attending this training workshop has been a positive experience for me, personally, as it helped sharpen my skills as a chef. It was great be coached by such a highly experienced chef. The experience has given us new found respect for gourmet delicacies that we are eager to try out back in the kitchen.”
