Oman Tourism College Hosts Culinary Contest

With aims to win “Best Student Chef Team” title, Oman Tourism College hosted the first Culinary Chef Competition for the short course students of the the Royal Court of Affairs Khasab project. Sponsored by Oman UAE Exchange, four teams of three students competed in a suspenseful three-hour long cook-off to plan and prepare a two-course meal. Coming in first place was Saif Mohamed Saif, Hussien Talib Ali Al Braide and Abdul Manam Talib.

Commenting on the competition, Dr. Abdulkarim Al Mughairi, Dean, said, “We always seek to create new and exciting ways for students to hone their skills so that they can build successful careers in the tourism and hospitality sector. Through such events, we motivate and inspire our students and give them a platform to showcase their talent. And it is amazing to see such professional grade culinary skills from the candidates. I would like to congratulate the winners and every participant for, though it is a competition, this event is about so much more than winning a prize; the real win lies in students gaining professional exposure and learning opportunities.”

Within his remarks, Mr. Boban M.P., Oman UAE Exchange CEO which was present at the competition expressed his delight with the caliber the students operate within. Judging the competition was Mr Ahmed al Habsi, Mrs Zuwaina Al Fazari, and Mr. Niranjan Prakash.

The entire event, which was a ‘Black Box Competition’ left judges and spectators on the edge of their seat, for contestants had to build an entire menu from the black box’s main ingredients. Participants were judged on recipe organization, flavor, creativity, cleanliness and presentation.
