OTC student completes successful international internship exchange

Oman Tourism College has ramped up efforts to give its students international industry exposure and professional experience by partnering with the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE). OTC is the first college in Oman to offer an international internship exchange programme in Hospitality and Tourism, through IAESTE which is a non-profit organization dedicated to the professional development of young students around the world.

Leila Abdul Qadir Ahmed Moncif who is a student on the BSc (Hons) in Tourism and Hospitality Management at OTC, successfully secured and completed a six weeks internship in Turkey. She is very excited about the experience and said, “My international exposure has definitely enhanced my professional skills. It was challenging as the management of the organization in which I was placed gave me independent responsibilities and I am so glad I was able to meet their expectations. This brief experience of working with professionals in other parts of the world has given me more confidence and has taught me a lot about industry opportunities that will match my interests and training”. Leila was recruited to the Administrative and Customer Support Department of a Turkish company to field customer queries and handle peak hour work traffic.

Ms. Jayashree, OTC faculty responsible for the Internship module said, “It is very important to provide international placement opportunities for students who are really keen for the exposure and also have the commitment to meet expectations. I am very thankful to IAESTE Oman and especially Mr. Moadh Al Zadjali, the training coordinator at Sultan Qaboos University for helping us with the logistics and providing us all the support we need in our first attempt to place a student internationally. Moadh’s help was invaluable”. She noted that OTC is looking forward to reciprocate the exchange as well as place more students abroad in the near future.
